What About Salt?

Snacks and Drinks

Salt reduction is a major issue for consumers who want to follow a healthy lifestyle. The UK's food and drink industry recognise the public's concern and has taken great steps to reformulate products with a lower salt content. This section of the website explains why salt is included in food, what the health implications are, what the industry is doing and how the labelling on products can help consumer reduce salt in their diet.

Salt: The Facts LeafletWe have produced a new leaflet called Salt: The Facts (pdf, 369kb). This highlights the extensive work the industry has done so far in reformulating products and explains why salt cannot be simply removed from food.

The contents of this leaflet have been incorporated into this section of the website, however you can also download a copy of the leaflet Salt: The Facts (pdf, 369kb) or order Salt: The Facts printed copies.
